Saguenay was formed on February 18, 2002, by the merger of the cities of Chicoutimi, Jonquière, La Baie, and Laterrière, along with the municipalities of Lac-Kénogami and Shipshaw and part of the township of Tremblay.
It's current population is roughly 150,000 people, and it lies in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region of Québec, about 200 km north of Québec City.
If you're moving to Saguenay, you'll find that the region itself is extremely beautiful, featuring stunning landscapes which include mountains, winding rivers, and the fjord de Saguenay, originally carved by the retreating glaciers of the last ice age. One of the featured attractions of Saguenay is Lac [Lake] Saint Jean, a huge lake which is circled by a bicycle path named the 'Veloroute des Bleuets', or Blueberry Cycling Route. There are also the Valin mountains, which are always popular for a wide variety of outdoor activities. The region itself is said to be reminiscent of rural France, and has become a popular retreat for Québecois who are looking to escape the hustle and bustle of their urban centers by moving to Saguenay.
Economically, tourism is an important source of income, with hiking, sailing, and cycling in the summer, and snowmobiling icefishing and snowshoeing in the winter. If you're interested in moving to Saguenay, please check out our links below. http://www.ville.saguenay.qc.ca/portail/wps/portal
